Who we are

A history of taste and hospitality

For more than 70 years, 23 Viale Abruzzi has been home to one of Milan’s historic taverns, La Piola.
In a corner of the fast-paced city, time seems to stand still here, proudly anchored in Milanese tradition.

In 1999, the osteria was taken over by Alberto Meggiorin, an experienced restaurateur who was able to transform La Piola into a landmark for authentic Milanese cuisine, renovating the restaurant without ever betraying its soul. It is a warm and familiar environment, where every detail tells a story: the black-and-white paintings with glimpses of old Milan, the burgundy and white checked tablecloths, the handcrafted wooden wine bottle rack, and a splendid 1960s coffee machine that smells of history.

In 2010, Alberto’s son David entered the scene, and with enthusiasm and dedication he picked up his father’s legacy. After years of apprenticeship in the field, Davide now leads the business with passion, bringing a fresh and new touch without ever breaking the harmony of the past.

In 2015, Alessia, the other daughter, also joined, driven by a deep passion for baking. Today she is the one who signs the house desserts, adding flavor and creativity to each end of the meal.

Our cuisine

Our menu follows the seasons and traditions. Risotto with ossobuco, cotoletta alla milanese, nervetti, riso al salto, casoeula in the colder months-these are just some of the dishes we bring to the table every day, alongside lesser-known but equally locally related offerings. We like the idea that each forkful tells a piece of Milan, and that the flavor awakens a memory, even in those who are just passing through.

The soul of a Milanese osteria

We are an osteria in the truest sense of the word: an informal but well-kept place where people come to eat well, drink a good glass of wine and rediscover the pleasure of companionship. We love simplicity, but we leave nothing to chance. Our hall welcomes those seeking Milanese cuisine with all the warmth of a family environment, right in the center of town.

People, not customers

At the Piola you don’t just come to eat. One comes to share. To tell the story. To find oneself. We believe in genuine hospitality, simple and sincere relationships. Every person who sits at our table is a guest, not a number. And let’s make sure that she can always feel welcome, whether at lunch or dinner.
